The Fluffy Cloth Diaper Factory- Quality Assurance Testing
Avery had three layered toddler sized cloth diapers on while he was inside the crib-cage as he waited his turn to test more company cloth diapers, plastic pants and their onesie bodysuits.
The Fluffy Diaper Service also was going to send Avery through the washing machine with the wet and messy cloth diapers so to clean him and the diapers after all of the messy and dirty quality assurance tests and all of the absorbency tests with all the dyes used, are done. The nursery care tech came over to Avery's crib and unlocked it, slid the side down and then began to lean in to help Avery out to get his diapers checked.
Nursery Care Tech: OK sweetie.....time for a diaper check. Come with...me.
Avery: Where are we going?
Nursery Care Tech: I...am taking you over to the diaper changing table to....check your diaper.
Avery: Miss? What....happens to us....testers after they don’t need us anymore?
Nursery Care Tech: We get you ready for disposal of course.....unless our....chemical testing labs need one of you...then you go to them and they use you and diapers before throwing you and the diapers away.
Avery: Where do all of the.....testers go after they get dirty after all the tests each day?
Nursery Care Tech: Oh...they go to the laundry department where the diapers and the testers get washed and dried before coming back here and put back in the cribs.
Avery: What happens to all of the diapers we use?
Nursery Care Tech: Some of them go back to the QA department for more use and if the diapers were too stained or too worn out , we throw those ones away.
Avery: How many times will I have to test diapers before I get thrown away or washed?
Nursery Care Tech: Well, that depends on what you look like after the dye tests and the durability stress tests are complete.
The Nursery Care Tech sits Avery down onto the diaper changing table and then laid him down on his back. Then she pulled his plastic pants down and looked at the front of his diapers. Seeing that they were indeed wet and in need of changing, she went over to the stack of folded-over pre-fold cloth diapers and got one to bring back to change Avery with.
Nursery Care Tech: This diaper I am about to put on you, is going to get nice and dirty as well as wet. Then, instead of bringing you back to change you, you and this diaper are going to the laundry department where they will wash you and the diapers and if they get clean enough, you and this diaper will go through more endurance absorbency tests. Then, after that, you get changed again and then you and that diaper get to go through a very rigorous strength test where we try to make your diaper rip, tear, snag. Once that diaper is ripped, torn and snagged up, it gets changed then thrown away.
Avery: When will I get thrown away?
Nursery Care Tech: When we receive the disposal orders from the manager of our department. O....K....time to change your diaper sweetie. These comfy diapers will be nearly stained to the point of becoming rags! I sure hope that the laundry department can get your diapers all nice and clean!
Avery: What will happen if they can't get my diapers clean?
Nursery Care Tech: Well......a few things.....first, they will toss you and any diaper that is still stained, into a cart, then when the cart gets full, it gets taken to either a large trash compactor and the load tossed in or the cart is taken to one of our diaper shredders and the loads tossed in.
Avery: Will I...go with the diapers to the shredders or the compactor?
Nursery Care Tech: Yes.....if the orders say so.
Avery: What.....are those....things....(pointing to one of the tilt-truck compactors) over there?
Nursery Care Tech: Those? Oh...those are what we use to smash the diapers down so that more room can be made in a cart for more diapers.
Avery: Will....one of those be used on me?
Nursery Care Tech: Yes...one will be.The cleaning ladies LOVE using it too! They seem to use it a lot while they are collecting all of the diapers from all of the test stations and all of the sorting stations.Ok sweetie.....here comes the nice....brand new cloth diaper......(pulling the front up and spreading the wings open more so to fasten them using snappie-fasteners.) Now......I want your diaper to be.....nice and snug.....because during these tests....they may become saggy and might even tear a little bit....Ok.......all....ready to go to the testing station.....o...k....down you....go.....alright....(placing her hand on Avery's back to guide him down the hall to the testing station.) Here....we go.....to the nice people at the testing station.....
The Nursery Care Tech guides Avery down a long path that goes around cloth diaper making machines in different phases of their production. As Avery passes one of the QA stations, the lady working there takes a cloth diaper and tries to rip it. It tears along one of the wings and she then marks it with a sharpie before throwing it into a trash cart. Avery is a bit bewildered by this. He is becoming more and more aprehensive about where he is being led. The Nursery Care Tech brings Avery over to a station that has a plastic diaper changing table on top of a wide stainless steel counter. The shelves above the changing table have various colored dyes in white bottles with flip up spouts, all lined up neatly along the width of the shelf. The diaper changer had straps that held the person in it down and had arm cuffs with chains to keep hands out of the way.
The cuffs were fastened to the changer part making it easier to turn the test-subject over either onto their stomach or onto their backs when it was necessary. For some of the tests, there were tubes being placed into the test-subject's diaper into the front waistband to conduct simulated wetting rather than actual wetting. There was some colored dye in the liquids coming from the tubes so that the testers could easily see where the wetness was going and if any of it leaked out, not to mention where it leaked.Story still under Construction
